Jennifer L. Seifert, Ph.D.
Jen is a central Ohio native who enjoys reading, playing volleyball, watching documentaries, and spending time with her partner and four children. She earned a Ph. D. in Communication Studies from Ohio University and both a Master’s in Communication Studies and a graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies from West Virginia University. Her dissertation work sought to contribute to the development of bystander sexual assault interventions by identifying barriers to college students’ willingness to communicate about sexual assault and sexual issues. More generally, her work focuses on new media technologies and sexuality-related activism and has included leading a team to develop an educational mobile application for use in Women and Gender Studies courses, developing media-based sexual assault campaigns on college campuses, and researching the use of social media with the SlutWalk organization. Her work is heavily influenced by her personal commitment to activism and social justice and she looks forward to contributing to the mission of the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network.
