Peer Mediation Workshops
The Appalachian Peace and Justice Network (APJN) provides peer mediation
training for selected students in grade three and above. This peer
mediation training model requires a two-to-three-member coordinating
committee and 24 participants from diverse backgrounds. The participants of
the peer mediation training workshop will be able to:
• Understand the sources of conflict and its’ common
responses;
• Reach win-win solutions;
• Effectively listen, paraphrase, summarize, question, and negotiate
concerns;
• Speak assertively;
• Respect cultural differences; and
• Deal with feelings;
• Reach win-win solutions.

• Improved proficiency test scores;
• Reduced prevalence of violence;
• Increased student attendance,
self-esteem, and leadership skills;
• Increased respect for individual
difference, cultures, and perspectives; and
