• Conflict Management• Peer Mediation• Bully Prevention• Violence Prevention Using the 2nd Step Curriculum • Positive Discipline for Parents and Teachers• Diversity Conflict Management Programs • Teach basic communication and problem solving skills; • Develop an environment where conflicts do not erupt into violence; • Support and affirm diversity; and • Seek to establish an overall tone of respect. Peer Mediation helps students • Resolve disputes before they require serious discipline; • Participate in creating solutions to their own problems; • Preserve or improve relationships; and • Learn life-long communication and negotiation skills. Peer Mediation Programs • Teach a select group of students advanced intervention and problem solving strategies; • Change the school culture - mediators are looked up to as role models; • Empower students to be responsible for their school’s or organization’s climate; and • Prepare students for possible roles as a middle and high school mediator or as an adult mediator. The first step is establishing a need for the program through surveys and planning retreats. Once a need is established, a CM committee is set up to assess which components of a CCMP are appropriate for your group. Hands-on Services Include For the Whole-School: • Summer planning retreat coordi-nation to assess your school’s needs and design a program that will work best for your students, teachers and staff • CM committee coordination to implement the summer retreat plan • Newsletters on monthly CM themes, ideas on how to infuse the theme into academics and resource tie-ins • Words of the Week (WOW) that connect the monthly themes to language arts • Bulletin boards on the monthly themes and WOW • Resources to infuse CM lessons into the language arts curriculum • Whole School Morning Meetings to build a sense of community and trust that helps students succeed in academics For Students: • Peer Mediation Training • 2nd Step, a Violence Prevention Curriculum • Mix It Up Day Coordination • Service Clubs to help negative leaders become positive leaders • Bully Prevention Training • CM lessons modeled in classes • CM resources • Peace Bench(es) for students to talk through conflicts For Teachers: • In services on infusing CM into lang. arts, bullying prevention, positive discipline and whole school coordination of CM programs • Model CM infusion into lang. arts lessons • Resources on CM pedagogy and curriculum • Chat’n Chew to strengthen positive relationships between teachers For Administrators: • Conflict Management in the Workplace For Bus Drivers: • De-escalating Conflicts on the Bus To get involved, ask questions or schedule an assessment contact: Mara Giglio 740.592.2608
